Our Clean Water Initiative
The past few years have seen the Asia Transpacific Foundation concentrating its efforts on our highly successful Clean Water Initiative (it’s so inexpensive and effective that UNICEF has begun funding educational and distribution campaigns, though our Foundation actually funds production of the filters).

Production facilities are currently operating in Thailand and Myanmar (Burma); the goal is to spread the benefits of this new but simple and renewable technology throughout India, Indonesia and beyond. Here is how they work:

Simple clay filters are locally produced using affordable, indigenous materials. Jobs are created at the production facility, the management of which, after initial launch, is turned over to the local workers. The filters are distributed and health rates soar, particularly among children. View a slideshow to see how this process works.

Every 15 seconds, a child dies from diseases associated with dirty water, inadequate sanitation and poor hygiene. Our simple filters are helping put an end to this devastation.

As a side note, the United Nations has determined a recognizable trend linking health and population: as infant mortality rates drop, women have less children, and a cycle of education and prosperity replaces disease and poverty.
