The weather in Australia ranges from tropical to arid, making
this island continent a year-round destination. The seasons in the
Southern Hemisphere run counter to our North American orientation:
summer starts in December, autumn in April, winter in June, and
spring in September.
Most of Queensland, the Northern Territory and Northwestern
Australia have a tropical, monsoonal climate. Winters are
pleasantly warm and dry. Summer days are often extremely hot
and typically cool off late in the day by afternoon thunderstorms.
The southern half of the continent is largely continental or
subtropical. Summers are pleasantly warm to hot and winters are
generally cool and mild with uniform precipitation year-round.
Depending on your timeframe and interests, there are sure to be
parts of this vast continent that present perfect Australia weather
to suit.
